Yarn Health = Girinyalanha Waluwin

Girinyalanha Waluwin communicates ideas that Aboriginal people on Wiradjuri land have shared about health. This project progressed over the course of two years through a project funded by the Commonwealth Government Indigenous Language and Arts Program and run collaboratively between The University of Sydney, Wiradjuri Condobolin Corporation and Orange Aboriginal Medical Service. It involved many meetings and much storytelling of events past and present.

This website provides links which explain a Wiradjuri holistic view of medicine as described by people on Wiradjuri land in the communities of Condobolin and Orange. It is envisaged that this website can continue to grow-with holistic medical stories being added to it in the future. Each square icon represents the ideas and stories of one person or organisation.

Girinyalanha (converse together) Waluwin (good, well, healthy, in order, right, tidy).

These words and definitions are from Grant, S., Grant, S., & Rudder, J. (2010) A new Wiradjuri dictionary. Restoration House.

About Us

Medicine is holistic. Unlike Western medicine, Wiradjuri medicine cannot be considered a separate entity to the rest of life. Wiradjuri health is connected to the whole of life.

Doing things together. Holistic healing is assisted by connection to community. Learning how to maintain wellbeing is important.

Being on Country. A sense of deep wellbeing is drawn from being on Country. The connection with the stories of the land give meaning and knowledge to us.
