Medicine is Holistic. Unlike Western medicine, Wiradjuri medicine cannot be considered a separate entity to the rest of life. Wiradjuri health is connected to the whole of life.

Doing things together. Holistic healing is assisted by connection to community. Learning how to maintain wellbeing is important.

Being on Country. A sense of deep wellbeing is drawn from being on Country. The connection with the stories of the land give meaning and knowledge to us.

Doing things on Country. Doing activities on Country like fishing or camping creates wellbeing.

Co-creation of stories. Storytelling and dance are a large part of Wiradjuri culture, and they communicate important cultural and scientific information for all aspects of life.

Languages. Hearing language is like food for the soul.

Being treated with respect. It has been the experience of many Wiradjuri people that they have not been treated with respect within the Western medical system. This is both historical and current. Increasing the respect and self-determination of Wiradjuri people to make their own informed health decisions will reduce fear of the Western medical system.

Good food is important. Many of the old ways of eating were lost, although fishing is still possible. It is important for us to learn to eat well again using both old and new ways.

Connection with heritage. We want to restore what was lost from our cultural heritage. Connecting with heritage makes us feel better.

Caring and sharing for one another. We survived the past by sharing and caring for one another and it is important in our culture. Hospitals and other facilities need to be structured to include our community support, not separate us from it. More Wiradjuri health professionals are needed.

Addressing Intergenerational trauma. Holistic medicine needs to be used to address intergenerational trauma and reduce the use of alcohol and drugs.

Everything has a place and has value. In our way, every animal, every inanimate object has a place and value, which is to be balanced and respected
